C

ommissioned by the Duke Mario Farnese in 1615, it was used to link the Ducal Palace with the italian garden located on the opposite side of which, nowadays, unfortunately there's nothing left.

Ceccarini Chigi Palace

H

istorical information about this palace are almost inexistent. An exception is the marble marker placed in 1794 upon

the entrance portal.
Probably built in the XVIII century by the Family Ceccarini at the time administrator of the goods of the Family Chigi in Farnese. Today it is the seat of the municipal offices.

S.S. Salvatore Parish Church

I

nside this Church we find some interesting paints as, for example, the magnificant aedicule (late 16th century) surrounding this altar of the'Madonna del Rosario'attributed to Anton Maria Panico (Bologna 1560 - Farnese 1609) one of the great artist which served the Farnese Family.
Again, you can find some other paintings of Panico, one representing Saint Sebastian and another the Mass of Paolo III Farnese, there's another painting representing the Arcangel Saint Michael of another grest artist of the time named Orazio Gentileschi (Pisa 1563 - London 1639).
We can find, placed in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, a wooden Ciborium decorated with pure gold donated by the Duke Pietro farnese in the 17th century.

Unfortunately the old facade built in 1714 by the swiss Carlo Antonio Cozzi go lost, it has been substituted by the existing one, built in 1954.

Ducal Palace

T

he Ducal Palace or 'Palazzo della Rocca' has been built in four centuries (1200 - 1600). Residence of the Farnese Family, it maintains almost unchanged the walls of its original structure, even though the signs of several changed are evident.
On the contrary, the inside, where it is possible to access from the square passing through the awsone portal made of stone and marbre, has benn going through deep changes since it has benn acquired, a lot of time ago, by privates and assigned to dwelling.
Even though it is still possible to observe on

the inside the little medieval courtyaid where are placed some symbols of the Farnese Family like e.g. the Unicorn with six lilies representing the belonging of the Family to the Order of the Knights of the Lily, order that had territorial, religious and political values, institutedby the Pope Paul the Third Farnese in 1546. This symbol is locatedhigh on a tufa column, while at the basis of the well it is possible to see, sculpted in the stone, two eels intertwisted, symbol of the Anguillara Family strictly related to the Farnese.

On the inside of the palace there is a little chapel too, unfortunately closed to the public since it is private property. Completely disappeared are the theatre, at the time located where nowaday is sited the Parish youth club, an a printing office active from 1509 to 1601, of Niccolò Mariani of which there are no element to state where il could be exactly located. All we know is that this printing office has been largely used by a famous poet of the time, Antonio Ongaro (Venice 1560 - Valentano 1600) resident in Valentano, carrying out the functions of administator in the feud on behalf of the Duke Mario Farnese during his absebse: many are works written by Ongaro but one of the most important nemed "L'Alceo" has benn printed in several editions and translated in more languages and fistly acted in 1582.

This Monastry has been founded for the will of Giulia Acquaviva, wife of Pier Bertoldo Farnese, that made built on her expenses a church dedicated to San Rocco with related monastry of the Grey-Friars dwelled there for 57 yars.
Indeed in 1617 Mario farnese, son of Pier Bertoldo, asked the permission to place it to disposal of his daughter, Sister Maria Francesca, nun for ten years already in the Convent of S. Maria in Panisperna in Rome.

S. Rocco Convent

B

uilt beside the Old Church dedicated to S. Magno it has been subsequently dedicated to S. Rocco.

The inside of the Church is composed by one only nave, the coir and the Capels: one dedicated to S. Antonio da Padova where stands out a beautifull piece of Giovanni Lanfranco (1582 - 1647), disciple of Carracci, representing the extasy of the Saint; the other in dedicated to S. Francesco where it is possible to find a piece representing the Holy Stigmats, made by the painter Giuseppe Duprà around the 1700.
On the High Altar ther's the SS. Crocefisso, excellent wooden work of Brother Vincenzo da Bassiano (1684). On the back of the altar you can find the awsone choir carved in walnut of two french men of church dated back to the beginning of the 18th century.
